Standing on the muddy bank was an incredibly old, tall white crane. The crane was a natural predator of the fish, but he had grown very lazy and weak with age. He no longer had the energy or the speed to chase the fast-swimming fish in the water.
"I am so terribly hungry, and my old legs are far too tired to hunt," the greedy crane grumbled to himself. "If I do not use my brain, I am going to starve to death right here on this muddy bank."
The Cruel Trick

The False Savior
The fish began to panic wildly, swimming in frantic circles. "Oh no! We are doomed! We are going to dry out in the mud!" they cried out in absolute terror. "Please, Uncle Crane! You are old and wise. Is there any way to save us?"

The Ultimate Betrayal
The crab wrapped his two sharp, powerful claws firmly around the crane's long neck, and they took off into the sky. As they flew over the dense bamboo forest, the crab looked down, searching for the giant lotus pond.
Instead of a beautiful pond, the crab saw a massive, flat black rock entirely covered in hundreds of tiny, white fish bones shining in the sunlight.

"Fly me back to the lake right now, or I will snap your neck in half!" the crab threatened firmly, tightening his grip even harder.
Terrified and completely defeated, the greedy crane turned around and flew as fast as he could back to the muddy lake. As soon as his feet touched the soft ground, the crab jumped off and pinched the crane's foot one last time for good measure.
"Never comeback! And never show your face here again!" the crab warned.
The crane cried out in pain and flew away in pure shame, never to return. He had lost his hunting ground, and his throat was terribly sore for weeks. The brave crab survived the dry season, proving that sharp wits are always stronger than greedy tricks.
