"If you two ever meet him, ask him to pray for your forgiveness, because his prayers will never be rejected by God," the Prophet continued.

That message proved to be true. When Umar and Ali finally found Uwais during the Hajj season years later, they saw a young man in shabby clothes praying devoutly. The two great companions humbly asked for a prayer from the poor shepherd.

"Raja Hutan akan mengadakan pesta besar besok malam dan beliau ingin membagikan daging segar untuk kalian semua," tipu Kancil dengan wajah meyakinkan.

Membangun Jembatan Hidup

Mata Buaya seketika berbinar cerah membayangkan pesta daging segar yang sangat lezat.

"Oleh karena itu, Raja Hutan memerintahkanku untuk menghitung jumlah seluruh buaya yang ada di sungai ini," lanjut Kancil menyempurnakan rencananya.

"Panggil seluruh temanmu sekarang juga! Berbarislah yang rapi dari tepi sini hingga ke seberang sana agar aku mudah menghitungnya," perintah sang Kancil.

Tanpa curiga sedikit pun, buaya itu segera menyelam dan memanggil seluruh kawanannya yang sedang tidur di dasar sungai. Dalam waktu singkat, puluhan buaya berkulit tebal muncul ke permukaan dan berbaris memanjang membentuk sebuah jembatan hidup yang kokoh.

Melompat Menuju Seberang

"Bagus sekali! Sekarang tetaplah diam di tempat, aku akan mulai menghitung kalian satu per satu," seru Kancil bersiap-siap.

Kancil melompat ringan ke atas punggung buaya pertama dengan langkah yang sangat gesit.

"Satu!" teriak Kancil riang. Ia kembali melompat ke punggung buaya kedua yang terasa keras seperti batang pohon.

"Dua! Tiga! Empat!" Kancil terus melompat dan menghitung dengan suara lantang hingga ia semakin dekat dengan tepian sungai yang ditujunya.

Para buaya tetap diam tak bergerak, sangat patuh karena menantikan janji hadiah daging segar dari Raja Hutan.

Akhir Damai yang Menyenangkan

Setelah lompatan terakhirnya, Kancil mendarat dengan mulus di atas rumput hijau yang lembut di seberang sungai. Hamparan kebun mentimun segar kini sudah berada tepat di depan matanya.

Para buaya menoleh ke arah tepi sungai, menunggu kelanjutan instruksi dari hewan lincah tersebut.

"Terima kasih banyak atas bantuan kalian, teman-teman! Jembatan barisan kalian sungguh luar biasa hebat," ucap Kancil membungkukkan badannya dengan sopan.

"Lalu, di mana daging segar kami, Kancil?" tanya ketua Buaya mulai kebingungan.

"Maafkan aku, sepertinya pesta itu diundur. Tapi sebagai gantinya, aku berjanji akan melemparkan buah-buahan manis ke sungai ini setelah aku selesai makan," jawab Kancil tersenyum manis.

Meski sadar telah dikelabui, para buaya tidak merasa terlalu marah karena Kancil berbicara dengan sangat sopan dan menghargai mereka. Barisan buaya itu pun kembali menyelam ke dasar sungai dengan tenang, sementara Kancil akhirnya bisa menikmati sarapan mentimun segarnya dengan damai dan perut kenyang.

Pengkhianatan di Istana Alas

Namun, kedamaian itu mendadak hancur berkeping-keping ketika sang Raja jatuh sakit parah hingga akhirnya menghembuskan napas terakhirnya. Raja meninggalkan seorang permaisuri yang sedang mengasuh putra mahkota yang masih bayi, bernama Amat Mude.

Karena Amat Mude masih terlalu kecil untuk memimpin kerajaan, takhta untuk sementara waktu diserahkan kepada paman Amat, yaitu adik dari mendiang Raja. Sepertinya, sang paman yang dijuluki Raja Muda itu memiliki niat jahat yang sudah lama terpendam.

Sifat serakah dan gila kekuasaan telah menguasai hati Raja Muda yang jahat itu. Suatu malam yang sunyi, ia memanggil permaisuri dan keponakannya itu ke ruang singgasana.

"Mulai detik ini, kerajaan ini adalah milikku sepenuhnya!" bentak Raja Muda sambil berdiri tegap menunjuk pintu keluar istana.

"Tega sekali kanda berbuat demikian! Semua ini kelak adalah hak milik putra mahkota anak dari kakakmu sendiri," isak sang Permaisuri memeluk erat bayi Amat Mude di dadanya.

"Prajurit! Usir perempuan ini dan bayinya ke wilayah buangan di pinggir hutan lebat sekarang juga!" perintah Raja Muda tanpa sedikit pun belas kasihan.

Masa Kecil di Pinggir Hutan

Permaisuri yang malang itu terpaksa menelan kepahitan hidup berdua bersama putranya di sebuah gubuk reyot di perbatasan hutan. Untuk bertahan hidup, ibunda Amat Mude mengumpulkan daun-daunan, mencari buah liar, dan menjual kayu bakar ke desa terdekat.

Tahun demi tahun berlalu dengan cepat, Amat Mude pun tumbuh menjadi seorang pemuda yang sangat tampan, kuat, dan cerdas. Tubuhnya berdiri kekar menantang teriknya matahari, dengan hati yang teramat lembut warisan dari mendiang ayahnya.

Suatu hari, Amat Mude yang baru saja pulang mencari ikan di sungai, menatap wajah ibunya yang dipenuhi kerutan lelah.

"Ibu, mengapa kita hidup menderita di pinggir hutan seperti ini? Siapakah ayahku sebenarnya?" tanya Amat Mude penasaran.

Ibunya menghela napas panjang, lalu menceritakan kebenaran masa lalu yang selama ini ia simpan rapat-rapat. Mendengar kisah pengkhianatan pamannya, darah muda Amat sempat mendidih, namun ia segera menenangkan dirinya.

"Jangan menaruh dendam di hatimu, Anakku. Kebaikan akan selalu menemukan jalannya sendiri untuk mengalahkan kejahatan," nasihat sang ibu mengusap kepala Amat penuh kasih sayang.

Perintah Menjemput Kematian

Kabar tentang ketangguhan dan kebaikan hati Amat Mude di perbatasan desa akhirnya sampai juga ke telinga Raja Muda di istana. Hati paman yang kejam itu kembali diselimuti rasa cemas dan ketakutan yang amat luar biasa.

"Pemuda itu adalah ancaman terbesar bagi takhtaku! Aku harus menyingkirkannya dengan cara yang paling halus," gumam Raja Muda memutar otak liciknya.

Raja Muda kemudian mengutus prajuritnya untuk memanggil keponakannya itu agar menghadap ke istana keesokan harinya. Saat Amat Mude tiba, Raja Muda berpura-pura menyambutnya dengan senyum palsu yang sangat ramah.

"Wahai keponakanku yang kekar dan pemberani, aku sedang menderita penyakit aneh yang tidak bisa disembuhkan oleh tabib mana pun," tipu Raja Muda bersandiwara.

"Apa yang bisa hamba lakukan untuk membantu kesembuhan Paman?" tanya Amat Mude dengan hati yang tulus dan jujur.

"Obatnya hanyalah air dari buah Kelapa Gading sakti yang tumbuh di pulau karang di tengah samudra, yang dijaga oleh monster naga laut ganas," jawab Raja Muda licik.

Keajaiban di Tengah Samudra

Meskipun ibunya menangis melarang, Amat Mude bersikeras melaksanakan perintah itu demi menunjukkan baktinya kepada keluarga dan kerajaan. Ia mendayung perahu kayu kecilnya menembus ombak samudra yang bergemuruh ganas menghantam karang.

Di tengah pelayarannya yang menguras seluruh tenaga, Amat Mude melihat seekor ikan pari raksasa dan seekor buaya putih besar yang sedang terjebak di jaring berduri. Tanpa berpikir panjang, pemuda itu melompat ke dalam air dan memotong jaring tersebut menggunakan belatinya.

"Terima kasih, anak muda. Kebaikan hatimu sungguh luar biasa," ucap sang Buaya Putih yang ternyata adalah raja hewan laut di wilayah itu.

"Aku sedang mencari pulau Kelapa Gading, namun sepertinya aku telah tersesat di tengah lautan luas ini," cerita Amat Mude mengusap air laut di wajahnya.

Ikan Pari dan Buaya Putih itu tersenyum, lalu berjanji akan mengawal perahu Amat Mude hingga sampai ke tujuan dengan selamat. Berkat bantuan hewan-hewan ajaib itu, perjalanan menembus badai dan arus mematikan menjadi jauh lebih mudah bagi Amat.

Hati Naga yang Luluh

Setelah berhari-hari mengarungi samudra, pulau karang yang tandus itu akhirnya terlihat menjulang tinggi menyentuh awan. Di puncak pulau tersebut, tumbuh sebuah pohon kelapa bercahaya keemasan, namun dililit oleh seekor naga raksasa yang menyemburkan api.

Saat perahu Amat merapat, naga itu mengaum marah dan bersiap menyambar tubuh pemuda tersebut dengan taringnya yang tajam.

"Tunggu, wahai Penjaga Samudra! Aku datang bukan untuk merampas, melainkan memohon setetes air kelapa untuk menyembuhkan pamanku," teriak Amat Mude berdiri tegak tanpa rasa takut.

Sang Naga terdiam sejenak. Ia mampu membaca isi hati manusia, dan melihat ketulusan murni yang memancar dari jiwa Amat Mude tanpa ada niat serakah sedikit pun. Kemarahan naga itu mereda, ia menundukkan kepalanya yang besar lalu memetik satu buah kelapa gading untuk diberikan kepada pemuda itu.

"Bawalah buah ini. Hati manusiamu jauh lebih bercahaya daripada kelapa sakti ini sendiri," ucap sang Naga dengan suara berat yang menggema.

Kembalinya Sang Pewaris Sah

Amat Mude kembali ke istana Negeri Alas dengan membawa buah Kelapa Gading tersebut, membuat seluruh pejabat istana terbelalak tak percaya. Raja Muda jatuh terduduk di atas singgasananya, wajahnya pucat pasi menyadari siasat pembunuhannya telah gagal total.

Melihat pamannya ketakutan, Amat Mude perlahan melangkah maju dan meletakkan kelapa bercahaya itu di pangkuan pamannya.

"Paman, aku telah membawakan obat yang kau minta. Hiduplah dengan sehat, dan jangan lagi menyakiti rakyat kerajaan ini," ucap Amat Mude dengan suara tenang.

Kebaikan hati yang luar biasa itu menghancurkan seluruh dinding kesombongan di hati Raja Muda seketika itu juga. Paman yang lalim itu menangis tersedu-sedu, memeluk kaki keponakannya, dan memohon ampun atas segala kejahatan yang telah ia perbuat di masa lalu.

Raja Muda segera menyerahkan mahkota kerajaan kepada pemilik aslinya yang paling berhak. Amat Mude akhirnya dinobatkan menjadi Raja Negeri Alas, lalu ia menjemput ibundanya untuk kembali tinggal di dalam istana. Di bawah kepemimpinan raja muda yang pemaaf dan tangguh tersebut, Negeri Alas kembali meraih masa kejayaan dan kedamaiannya sepanjang masa.
