The Ticking Clock

Ceritasakti.com - "Thirty minutes left on the clock, chefs! Bring out your best flavors!" the head judge announced, his voice echoing loudly across the massive, stainless-steel kitchen of the Grand Culinary Vocational School.

At Station Number Four, a team of five highly focused teenagers was moving with the speed and precision of professional chefs. Leo, the ambitious team captain, quickly scanned his station.

"Alright, team! This is the grand finale. We are making our secret weapon, The Golden Molten Nuggets!" Leo declared confidently. "Ben, how are the main ingredients looking?"

Ben, the fast-handed prep cook, pulled a large stainless-steel steamer basket off the hot stove. A thick cloud of sweet, fragrant steam immediately filled their cooking station.

"The sweet potatoes are perfectly cooked, Captain!" Ben reported proudly. "I peeled half a kilogram of honey sweet potatoes, cut them into small three-centimeter blocks, and steamed them for exactly fifteen minutes just like we practiced."

The Science of the Root

Maya, the team's dessert specialist, immediately transferred the steaming yellow blocks into a large glass mixing bowl. She grabbed a heavy metal fork and began mashing the hot potatoes furiously.

"I still cannot believe we are using sweet potatoes for a modern pastry competition," Sam, the practical sous-chef, laughed as he measured out a cup of water.

"Do not underestimate traditional ingredients, Sam," Maya explained smartly, not stopping her mashing. "Sweet potatoes are tuberous roots. In botany, they are called Tuber Rhizogenum. They grow entirely under the ground, storing massive amounts of natural sugar and nutrients."

"Exactly!" Chloe, the presentation expert, chimed in. "We chose the yellow honey sweet potato because its natural sweetness is absolutely incredible. But honestly, if we wanted a cooler color for plating, we could have easily used the purple sweet potato instead."

"Less talking, more mashing, team!" Leo reminded them, checking the large digital clock on the wall. "Maya, is the texture smooth enough?"

"It is perfectly smooth," Maya smiled, stepping back from the bowl.

The Molten Chocolate Core

Sam immediately stepped forward with a small bowl of wheat flour. "Adding exactly one tablespoon of flour into the mashed sweet potato dough to bind the moisture!" he announced, mixing the dough thoroughly until it was firm and easy to shape.

Now came the most crucial and delicate part of their entire recipe. The five teenagers gathered around the cutting board, working together like a perfectly synchronized machine.

Leo pinched a small portion of the yellow dough, rolled it into a smooth ball in his palms, and flattened it gently. He then placed a solid square block of dark chocolate right in the center.

"Make sure you seal the chocolate completely inside the dough," Leo instructed his team. "Roll it tightly. If there is even a tiny crack, the chocolate will melt and leak into the hot frying oil, and our presentation will be completely ruined."

In less than five minutes, the team had perfectly shaped dozens of beautiful, golden-yellow dough balls, all secretly hiding a rich chocolate core.

The Crunchy Coating

"Twenty minutes left!" Ben warned, pointing at the clock nervously.

"We are right on schedule," Sam said calmly. He placed two separate bowls on the counter. One bowl contained a thick, wet mixture of wheat flour and fresh water, while the other was filled to the brim with crispy, golden breadcrumbs.

Chloe took charge of the coating station. She carefully dipped each sweet potato ball into the wet flour mixture, ensuring it was entirely covered.

She then quickly dropped the wet ball into the dry breadcrumbs, rolling it around until a thick, beautiful crust formed on the outside.

"The liquid flour acts as the perfect glue," Chloe explained, working with incredible speed. "This breadcrumb layer will give us that amazing, satisfying crunch to contrast the soft, sweet potato inside."

The Perfect Fry

Leo moved to the deep-frying station. He had already preheated a large pan of cooking oil over medium heat.

"Why are we using medium heat, Leo? Should we not use high heat to finish faster?" Ben asked, wiping down their messy counter.

"If we use high heat, the breadcrumbs will burn into a bitter black crust before the chocolate inside even has a chance to melt," Leo explained like a true culinary professional. "Patience is the key to a perfect golden fry."

Leo gently lowered the coated nuggets into the hot oil using a metal spider skimmer. The oil immediately bubbled and hissed, filling their station with a glorious, mouth-watering aroma of fried dough and sweet caramelized sugar.

He fried them carefully, turning them constantly until the crust turned a magnificent, vibrant golden brown. He then lifted them out of the oil and placed them on a wire rack to drain the excess oil completely.

A Masterpiece of Plating

"Five minutes left! Prepare for plating!" the head judge shouted, walking slowly between the cooking stations with a stern look on his face.

This was Chloe’s ultimate moment to shine. She took a beautiful, long rectangular ceramic plate and elegantly arranged the hot golden nuggets in a perfectly straight line.

She grabbed a squeeze bottle filled with thick, rich sweetened condensed milk and drizzled a beautiful zigzag pattern generously over the hot nuggets.

Finally, she took a small cup of colorful chocolate sprinkles—known as meses—and scattered them gently over the sticky condensed milk. The bright colors popped against the golden crust, creating a dessert that looked like it belonged in a five-star restaurant.

"Done!" the team shouted together, throwing their hands in the air just as the final buzzer rang loudly across the kitchen.

The Taste of Victory

The tension in the room was incredibly thick as the panel of three strict judges finally arrived at Station Number Four.

The head judge picked up a small silver fork and sliced right through the center of a golden nugget. As the crispy crust cracked open, the hot, melted dark chocolate oozed out beautifully, mixing with the soft yellow sweet potato and the sweet condensed milk.

The judge took a bite, closed his eyes, and chewed slowly. Leo, Maya, Sam, Chloe, and Ben held their breath, their hearts pounding in their chests.

The strict judge suddenly opened his eyes and smiled brightly. "The crunch of the breadcrumbs is absolutely perfect. The natural sweetness of the root balances flawlessly with the rich, bitter dark chocolate. This is not just a snack; this is a culinary masterpiece!"

An hour later, the five teenagers stood proudly on the grand stage under the bright spotlight. When the head judge announced Station Number Four as the grand champion, the team erupted into joyful screams, hugging each other tightly.

Leo proudly lifted the shiny golden first-place trophy high into the air. They had proven that with a little bit of creativity, solid teamwork, and a lot of passion, even a humble, simple root could be transformed into an absolute winner.
